Weight Loss & Metabolic Health in Albuquerque
Medically guided weight management programs including GLP-1 monitoring, lifestyle support, and strategies for sustainable, long-term results, led by a board-certified internal medicine physician who looks at your whole health.

A Medical Approach to Weight and Metabolism
Weight is rarely just about willpower. Blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep, stress, medications and hormones all interact with how your body stores and uses energy. That is why Body1MD treats weight loss as part of metabolic health, under the care of a physician who can see how all of those pieces fit together.
We begin with a comprehensive consultation, looking at your health from head to toe, so we can fully understand you, your history, and your goals. From there, we make sure your core primary care needs are up to date, including preventive screenings, lipid management, and blood pressure control, then build a personalized plan that goes beyond optimizing chronic conditions to include exercise, nutrition and, if warranted, medication.
For some patients, a GLP-1 medication is part of the plan. These medications call for thoughtful monitoring of effectiveness, side effects and nutrition. Dr. Hemmen monitors patients on GLP-1 therapy and pairs medication with lifestyle support so results can last.

Our Approach to Weight Loss & Metabolic Health
Medical oversight, practical lifestyle support, and steady accountability
Understand Your Metabolism
Dr. Hemmen reviews your history, medications, sleep, activity and eating patterns, examines you, and orders lab work when it will guide the plan. Conditions that affect weight are identified and addressed.
Build Your Plan
Your plan may combine nutrition strategies, exercise guidance and, when appropriate, medication such as a GLP-1. Every element is chosen for sustainability, not a quick drop on the scale.
Stay Accountable
Real change comes from consistency. We help you stay accountable, track your progress, and adjust your plan as you improve.
Benefits
Physician-Led Care
Your plan is directed by a board-certified internal medicine physician, so weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol are managed together.
Careful Medication Monitoring
If a GLP-1 or other medication is part of your plan, Dr. Hemmen monitors your response and side effects and adjusts the plan as needed.
Built to Last
Lifestyle support and accountability are part of the plan from the start, so progress is more likely to hold.
Support Between Visits
Members can reach Dr. Hemmen directly by phone and text between visits, and same- or next-day appointments are available in most cases.

Testing and a Starting Plan
When lab work is needed, Dr. Hemmen orders it and reviews the results with you. Together you set realistic goals and a starting plan.
Follow-Up and Adjustment
Regular follow-ups track progress, side effects, energy and strength, with changes made as you go.
Long-Term Maintenance
As you reach your goals, the focus shifts to keeping the results: habits, activity and ongoing metabolic monitoring.
About GLP-1 Medications
GLP-1 receptor agonists are a class of prescription medications first developed for type 2 diabetes that also reduce appetite and help many people lose weight. They can cause side effects, most commonly nausea and other digestive symptoms, and they are not right for everyone.
Because these medications can reduce how much you eat, attention to protein, overall nutrition and strength training matters, to help protect muscle while you lose fat. Physician monitoring helps make sure the medication is working, side effects are managed, and the plan around it is sustainable.
Pricing
Body1MD's primary care membership is $100 per month under age 50 and $150 per month at age 50 and older, month-to-month. Some weight loss and performance services are separately contracted and priced, and Dr. Hemmen will discuss what applies to your plan, along with medication costs, before you begin.
Common Questions About Weight Loss & Metabolic Health
Am I a candidate for a GLP-1 medication?
It depends on your weight, your other health conditions, your medical history and your goals. Dr. Hemmen reviews these with you and explains the potential benefits, side effects and alternatives before anything is prescribed.
Do I have to take medication to lose weight?
No. Many people make meaningful progress with nutrition, exercise and accountability alone. Medication is one tool, used when it is warranted.
Will I lose muscle on a GLP-1 medication?
Some loss of lean mass can occur with any significant weight loss. Adequate protein and regular strength training help protect muscle, which is why nutrition and exercise guidance are part of the plan.
How is this different from a commercial weight-loss program?
Your plan is directed by a physician who also manages your primary care, so weight is treated alongside blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, sleep and medications rather than in isolation.
How much does it cost?
Pricing is discussed individually before you begin. The primary care membership is $100 per month under age 50 and $150 per month at 50 and older, month-to-month. Any separately priced services and medication costs are explained up front.
